Before buying, there are seven things to consider, but only two of them are listed in the specifications. The most important are the noise level, the lowest power setting, and whether replacement batteries and attachments are available. Here's the checklist you can use to evaluate a device in five minutes.
The seven points
- How quiet is it? A device that you don't want to use in the evening won't be used at all. Brushless motors are noticeably quieter.
- How weak is the lowest setting? More important than the highest setting. A really gentle step is needed for the neck, arms, and getting started.
- Are there replacement attachments and a replaceable battery? Foam attachments wear out, batteries age. Without replacements, the device becomes e-waste after two years.
- How heavy is it? Between 700 grams and 1,2 kilos. Anyone who wants to reach their own back will notice every gram.
- Is the handle positioned well? A triangular handle reaches your back much better than a straight one.
- How long is the warranty? And is there a contact person in Germany?
- What is the return policy? You only know if a device is suitable after a week of use.

Information that means nothing
- Force in kilograms. Not standardized, not comparable between manufacturers.

- Number of levels. Twenty steps with too strong a start are worse than five with a gentle one.
