Most massage guns come with four to six attachments, and the instructions rarely explain them. In short: ball for large muscles, fork for areas alongside the spine, cone for specific pressure points, flat disc for sensitive areas, cushion for beginners. Here's what each one actually does and which ones you hardly need.
The essays in detail
Sphere, usually the largest one. The all-rounder. It distributes the force over a wide area, making it suitable for thighs, calves, glutes, and the large back muscle. If you only use one, use this one.
Flat disc. Similar in gentleness to the ball, but flatter and therefore better suited for areas with little tissue, such as the shoulder blade or forearm. Also the right choice for a first attempt in a new location.
Fork, also called U-shape. The two prongs move along the spine on either side without touching it. That is their only practical purpose, and they are very good at it. Do not place them on the neck, as the spacing is too narrow there.
Cone or point. It concentrates all the force on one point. Designed for individual hard spots and the soles of the feet. This is the attachment most likely to cause a bruise, therefore it should be used briefly and at a low setting.
Pillows or cushions, often made of soft foam. Reduces impact. Suitable for beginners, sensitive individuals, and areas close to bone.

Which one for what, as a table in the header
- Thighs, calves, buttocks: Ball, medium to high level.
- Back next to the spine: Fork, medium setting.
- Neck and shoulders: Flat disc or cushion, low setting. Never the fork, never the cone.
- Sole of foot: Cone, in short.
- Single hard spot in the muscle: Cones, fifteen seconds.
- Forearms, hands: flat disc, low setting.
What applies to the neck and why special care is required there is explained in the article. Neck massager or massage gun.
Most people use the cone incorrectly.
It looks like the tool for stubborn muscle tension, and therefore it's used for too long and too forcefully. In fact, it's the attachment with the greatest potential for injury because the entire force is concentrated on just a few square centimeters.
The rule is: no more than fifteen seconds on one spot, lowest to medium intensity, and never over a bone. Which areas are strictly off-limits is explained in the article. Is a massage gun dangerous?.
Which attachments are rarely needed
Many sets contain five or six heads, but in everyday use most people use two: the ball for larger areas, the flat disc for delicate ones. The fork and cone heads are added when working specifically on the back or a particular spot.
The number of attachments is therefore not a good criterion when buying a garden lift. Lifting height, noise level, and battery life are more important. The article explains what else is important. Is a massage gun useful?.
Care that hardly anyone does
Wipe the attachments after use, especially the foam ones. They absorb skin oils and sebum and become sticky over time. If you use massage oil, avoid foam attachments because they become saturated.
